Studio 23 Airs Season 7 Finale

Break-ups, doubts, and a murder confront the housewives of Wysteria Lane in the season seven finale of “Desperate Housewives.”



Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) is getting worried over the mysterious man who has been watching her as Susan (Teri hatcher) convinces the police that she was framed for poisoning Paul (Mark Moses). Bree (Marcia Cross), on the other hand, doubts her new boyfriend’s sexuality while Lynette (Felicity Huffman) tries to fix her marriage with Tom (Doug Savant).



DH fans wouldn’t dare miss this much-awaited finale especially after ABC’s president for entertainment Paul Lee confirmed that “Desperate Housewives” will end its run in 2012. Studio 23’s lifestyle program “Us Girls” airs its 2011 Us Girls August Awards in two parts starting tomorrow night (Aug 25) as the show honors the local industry’s most influential personalities in fashion, entertainment, and beauty.



Actress Anne Curtis emerged “Icon of the Year” for excelling in her craft and her influence as a fashion icon, and for her numerous commercial endorsements and charitable works.



Catch the appearances of Julia Montes as Face of the Year, stylist Liz Uy, model Georgina Wilson and host Bianca Gonzales as the Most Fashionable Females, while actors Sam Milby, Gerald Anderson, and entrepreneur Hayden Kho were named as Most Fashionable Males.



Xian Lim, Matteo Guidicelli, Gretchen Fullido, and Bianca Manalo won the Sexiest Male and Female awards.



The people who glam up celebrities were also honored like Steven Doloso, RB Chanco, Ricci Chan and Albert Kurniawan as Make Up Artists of the Year, while Bang Pineda, Bianca Cordero, Patty Yap, Kim Yap, Boop Yap and Geolette Esguerra as Stylists of the Year.

Us Girls August Awards 2011

Now on its third year, join Iya Villania, Chesca Garcia-Kramer and Angel Aquino as “Us Girls” hails the country’s most gorgeous and stylish icons tonight, August 18 at Amber, the Fort in Taguig City.



Anne Curtis will accept the prestigious Icon of the Year award, which was brought home last year by Angel Locsin.



Vying for the Face of the Year award are television princesses Maja Salvador, Julia Montes, Jennylyn Mercado, and Marian Rivera, while stylist Liz Uy, models Isabelle Daza and Georgina Wilson, and TV stars Kim Chiu and Bianca Gonzales will compete for the Most Fashionable Female title.



Broadcaster Gretchen Fullido, host Bianca Manalo and model-actresses Cristine Reyes, Regine Angeles and Solenn Heusaff are up for the Sexiest Female title.



Meanwhile, actors Sam Milby, John Lloyd Cruz, Gerald Anderson, Dingdong Dantes and entrepreneur Hayden Kho will compete for the Most Fashionable Male award, while the Sexiest Male nominees are Daniel Matsunaga, Derek Ramsay, Xian Lim, Phil Younghusband, and Matteo Guidicelli.



Not to be outshined are the people who glam up our favorite celebrities, including Steven Doloso, RB Chanco, Ricci Chan and Albert Kuriniawan – contenders for the Make Up Artist of the Year. Fashion royalties Bang Pineda, Patty Yap, Kim and Boop Yap and Geolette Esguerra are the nominees for the Stylist of the Year.



The “Us Girls”’ staff and Studio 23 management’s choice will determine the winners, as well as the viewers’ votes.



The glamorous event will be televised in a two-part airing on August 25 and September 1 at 9:30 PM on Studio 23.

Football Fever Heats Up on Studio 23

UAAP Season 74 Kicks Off!

The 74th season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) kicks off with an Olympic-style opening ceremony today at 4 p.m. at the Marikina Sports Park.

Over 12,000 athletes, program participants, students, alumni, and fans are expected to attend the event.

All athletes in 15 sports will march around the Marikina Sports Park’s track oval to highlight the affair.

UAAP President Ricky Palou and secretary-treasurer Emmanuel Fernandez will head the guest list that includes Ateneo President Fr. Jett Villarin, the entire UAAP board, the 8 member-schools’ top officials, alumni and students.

Former Ateneo standout and PBA superstar Olsen Racela will light the cauldron to signify the opening of the season that will carry the theme “All Heart. All Out.”

Another highlight of the affair is the solemn entry of colors where the cadets of host school Ateneo will bring in a 60-x-30-feet flag.

University of Santo Tomas (UST), the perennial general champion, has the most number of athletes who will join the parade with 627, followed by University of the East (UE) with 512.

University of the Philippines (UP) will bring in 425 athletes, De La Salle University with 417, Adamson University with 300, Far Eastern University with 300, and National University (NU) with 260.

According to Palou, the idea for a 2-hour Olympic-style ceremony was brought up 3 years ago.

“But the serious work started in January this year and the actual rehearsals began in April,” said opening ceremony project head Benjo Afuang.

Afuang said they will use around 4,000 color-coded umbrellas in the event of rain.

Fernandez said only a storm will be able to stop the ceremony.

The ceremony will end with a free concert featuring Sponge Cola, The Itchyworms, Kjwan, and a fireworks display.

In men's basketball, three-peat champions the Ateneo Blue Eagles remain the favorite to win the tournament.

Fans are also eagerly awaiting the debut of several rookies. These include Keifer Ravena and 7-footer Greg Slaughter of Ateneo, and Bobby Ray Parks Jr., son of former Philippine Basketball Association import Bobby Parks, who is suiting up for the NU Bulldogs.

Norman Black, coach of the Ateneo Blue Eagles, said they are ready for the season.

"One of the key things this year is going to be the fact that we have to remain hungry. When I say that, it really starts in practice. We have to work hard, and practice every day, [and] understand that all the teams would be trying to shoot us down," he said.

Eric Altamirano, coach of the NU Bulldogs, on the other hand, said, "I expect our team to be fighting it out. We're gonna give it our best shot. We're confident. We're optimistic that we'll be able to compete with the top teams."

The men's basketball games start on July 10.
